Sympathy For The Devil

Sympathy For The Devil. I’ve always been infatuated with that song. Mick Jagger hisses Lucifer’s story, his autobiography, as a samba. It’s one of the many songs out of the 60s that hold relevance today. Evil has taken over a dystopian universe with drive-thru heart attacks and The Kardashians. I know there’s evil because it’s on my Facebook timeline today.

Sometimes I wake up in the morning and get hit by the weight of the world. Mass shootings, poverty, terror, suicide, rape…I usually read about it before I even get my first cup of coffee. Today is one of those days. It’s a particularly dreary day in Atlanta and my phone buzzes between songs in the studio, tallying bodies for a new death toll. Social media gives us access to great things and terrible things. I’m feeling terrible, so I’m writing this as a reminder to myself.
