PROGRAMMING AND PRODUCTION DEPARTMENT
The
Programming and Production Department is the air sound of the station.
Programming includes the announcing and production staffs. Duties
include airwork, board work, commercial and image production, show
preparation, writing, public affairs programming and listener interaction.
The Programming Department internship runs for approximately three
weeks.
The
student reports to the Program Director (PD) or Assistant Program
Director (APD). Activities and duties are established by the PD
and may include:
- Initial meeting
with the PD to schedule the program, receive a meeting list, meet
the staff and get an overview of the department
- Attend music
and programming meetings
- Attend promotions
meetings
- Handle the
studio request lines
- Observe each
shift for a two hour period
- Write public
service announcements
- Observe a
taping of a public affairs program
- Get an overview
of music and Arbitron research
- Observe image
production for a four hour period
- Operate the
board during a taped program for one show
- Dub commercials
or PSAs into digital storage
- Dub copies
of airchecks for inquiries and station recaps
- Respond to
listener faxes, letters and emails
- Provide support
at station appearances and special events
- Complete
reading assignments such as industry trades, periodicals and books
The intern's performance
is reviewed following the completion of the department program
